Villas in the south of France: Sun protection 'still important in winter'

People heading on holiday in the winter to cooler climates, such as in villas in the south of France, should still protect their skin from the elements.

This is the advice of Louise Thomas-Minns, skin therapist and founder of Uandyourskin.co.uk, who believes sunscreen should be worn no matter the season.

She noted: "It's still important to protect your skin with an SPF (sun protection factor) everyday despite the lack of sun, since UV (ultraviolet) rays are present all year round."

To ensure that a body is not left burnt or damaged through the sunlight, Ms Thomas-Minns recommends opting for a product which includes such ingredients as titanium dioxide and zinc.

She explained that such solutions can help to "reflect the harmful rays from the skin", thus making sure that no health problems are encountered while abroad this winter.

For those opting to stay in south of France villas near to a ski resort, Dave Byrd, director of risk and regulatory affairs for National Ski Areas Association, pointed out that wearing goggles ensures that eyes are protected from snow and wind on the slope.
