Taste 'superb wines' on a South of France villa holiday

Wine connoisseurs on a South of France villa holiday should include a visit to the Chateau Les Valentines in Provence.

The vineyard produces what one wine writer has described as "one of the finest roses on the market".

Writing for Business Week, Nick Passmore states that the husband-and-wife winemaking team are utilising modern techniques to produce high class wines, particularly rose.

"One of their best is the lovely Chateau Les Valentines, Cote de Provence Rose 2008," he said.

"A delicate pale salmon in color, it has a subtle intensity of flavor, feminine charm, and an earthy minerality. In other words, rich, mouth-filling flavor and elegant restraint at the same time."

Chateau Les Valentines overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and is situated a few miles from St Tropez.

The wine growing estate is more than a century old, and has produced award-winning varieties.

Holiday makers visiting the region may also wish to spend a day in the charming town of Aix, or take a drive through the imposing gorges and traditional villages of the Canyon du Verdon.
