Summer holiday in south of France 'viable by train'

Eurostar has put tickets on sale for its services direct to the south of France for summer holiday makers in 2011.

The company, which runs the international rail service, will run a weekly service between London and Avignon, from where France's entire Mediterranean coast is accessible.

With prices starting at £109 return, it may provide a comfortable and affordable way for many to reach their destination without the hassle of negotiating airports.

A journey between the English capital and Avignon takes less than six hours by train and passengers will disembark straight into the centre of a fascinating and beautiful city.

There are also transport links to other resorts, where people may like to enjoy a south of France holiday this summer.

Alternatively, those who would like to travel to the region in winter may like to follow in the footsteps of ex-England cricket captain Michael Vaughan, who recently told the Daily Telegraph he liked to ski there during the cold months of the year.
