Stay in Provence villa to see historical Salon-de-Provence
Those staying in villas in Provence will have the opportunity to visit the town of Salon-de-Provence, which was recently praised by one travel writer.
In a piece for Suite101.com, Heidi Brand stated the settlement has a history that spans centuries, as well as a modern, bustling vibe.
The Tower and Clock Gateway is one place holiday makers might like to visit, as it was built in the 17th century and is decorated in gold.
From there, people can head to Newtown Tower on the edge of the old town, which is the last remaining structure of the 12th-century ramparts and is "a striking monument" marking the boundary of the old and new areas of the town, Ms Brand explained.
"Walking through the ancient gateways into the old town, visitors will find the cobbled streets, lined with colourful shops and cafes, leading to the commanding Chateau de l'Emperi," she continued.
Further glowing praise for the surrounding region of Provence comes from the Lonely Planet, which describes it as an "iconic wedge" of gorgeous coastline, mountains, Roman temples and gastronomic delights.
