South of France villas: Why not take a short break overseas?

Brits have been encouraged to take short trips abroad, such as a mini-getaway to the South of France.

Heather Carswell, a spokeswoman at Lonely Planet, acknowledged that, in the current climate, many flights to countries across Europe are not too much different to taking a train ride in the UK.

For this reason alone, she believes that it is little surprise that many families are taking up this option.

To further entice Brits, Ms Carswell noted: "Taking a short trip can be a fantastic way of getting a taste of the country."

She went on to suggest that a short break is generally simple to work around work or university commitments too, meaning people have little excuse not to book a getaway.

Recently, the Coventry Telegraph reported that those who do book up holiday villas in the South of France should check out the "cherished cultural tradition" of water jousting.

Taking place in the resort of Languedoc between late spring and early autumn, the sport combines elements of Camelot and Henley into a must-see attraction.
