South of France holidays 'will be popular thanks to strong pound'

The strengthening position of the pound against the euro will entice people back to booking holidays in the south of France.

That is the view of Ian Bradley, spokesman for the Association of Independent Tour Operators, who says value for money is a priority for many travellers.

As such, even "traditional" vacation destinations can suffer in time of poor foreign exchange rates.

But with the UK currency improving its position versus the single European money, he expects tourists to flock to the south of France, as well as other nations such as Cyprus, Spain and Portugal.

"I think that there is something that is going to be attractive [in the eurozone] over the coming months," Mr Bradley states.

One such temptation could be the glamour, sun and beautiful beaches travellers can expect when holidaying in the south of France.

According to recent numbers from the Office for National Statistics, the number of overseas trips made by Britons in the 12 months to September rose by three per cent to 14.1 million.
