South of France holiday 'packed with Jewish history'
A member of a Jewish family has told of the fascinating time she spent on holiday in the south of France, particularly in the town of Cavaillon.
Rosalind Grant, writing a letter to the Daily Telegraph, explains the Provence region was full of intriguing buildings, memorials and artefacts related to her religion.
She recalls immediately noticing a plaque with Hebrew inscriptions upon arrival in the town, before learning it was close to the site of a 14th century Jewish cemetery.
Ms Grant goes on to detail Cavaillon's synagogue, which she says she arrived at just as one of the twice-weekly tours was getting underway.
This allowed her to take a closer look at artefacts dating back some 700 years that were once stored below the stone floor in order to protect them during the war.
Atout France recently suggested a holiday in the south of France may be ideal over Christmas, with the region promising plenty of festive markets and traditional celebrations.
