Skiing on holiday in south of France 'can be beautiful and fun'

People taking a holiday in the south of France this winter ought to take in at least one day of skiing on the region's famous Alpine slopes, if one expert is to be believed.

Clare Mann, writing a piece for the Daily Telegraph, says Val d'Isere has established itself as the favoured spot among Britons looking to enjoy the activity, or other snow-based sports.

It came to prominence in the 1970s when chalet parties were invented and has not looked back since.

With a 1,900-metre vertical drop, 300 km of piste and 99 lifts capable of transporting 135,000 people an hour, it is not hard to see why Val d'Isere has won the hearts of holiday makers.

"It is a breeze for an intermediate to ski from one side of the ski map to the other, from Le Fornet to Tignes les Brevieres in a day," suggests Ms Mann.

Among the famous faces to have recently taken a holiday in the south of France is X Factor judge Dannii Minogue, who visited the region with her partner and son.
