See the stars on a South of France holiday

Those heading off on South of France villa holidays on the Cote d'Azur will be able to catch a glimpse of the stars by heading to Nice.

The city's observatory is a refracting telescope facility that has become a recognised centre for astronomical research.

Situated on the summit of Mont Gros, the dome was initiated in 1987 by the banker and philanthropist Raphael Bischoffmein.

Its location is deemed one of the best in Europe for an observatory, since it is surrounded by a spacious park.

Cote d'Azur holiday makers will be able to take guided tours of the centre and peer through the enormous lens.

They can also stroll through the beautiful gardens surrounding the observatory, taking in the well-manicured displays of flora and fauna.

Those renting Cote d'Azur villas in the village of Valbonne will be just a 45-minute drive away from Nice.

With its winding streets and its Roman architecture, Valbonne itself is also a great place to explore.

The village is home to a number of quiet cafes and offers some spectacular views out towards the sea.
