See some modern art on a south of France villa holiday

Art lovers looking forward to a south of France villa holiday this summer might be interested in arranging a trip to Aix-en-Provence to see an exhibition at the Musee Granet.

A selection of work by the Belgian artist Pierre Alechinsky will be on display at the venue until October 3rd.

Described by the exhibition's organisers as "one of the biggest names in contemporary art", Alechinsky has enjoyed a distinguished career spanning nearly 60 years, during which he has displayed work all over the world.

Holiday makers staying in Provence villas can visit the Musee Granet over the coming months to see nearly 170 works including paintings, drawings, engravings and ceramics, which are being shown in a space covering some 500 square metres.

The main theme of the exhibition is the link between Alechinsky's work and southern France.

Destinations such as Montpellier, the Cevennes and the Alpilles have proved highly inspirational for the artist and have influenced many of his pieces.

People planning to visit the Musee Granet during a south of France villa holiday this year will find the venue at Place Saint Jean de Malte in Aix-en-Provence.
