Rent a south of France villa for a 'barbecue summer'

Holiday makers worried about another disappointing summer in terms of the British weather may wish to book a villa holiday in the south of France.

That is according to one travel writer who explained that he and his family may have got wet during their summer break, but only when they chose to go for a swim.

"Not a cloud in the bright blue sky, fierce sun burning down for days on end, followed by balmy nights sat outside with a cold beer in the midst of a hot August 2009," Russell Youll wrote of his vacation near Montpellier in the Coventry Telegraph.

He advised those heading to the Languedoc region to rent a car, something that allowed them to explore the medieval village of St Guilhelm le Desert, which is situated in the foothills above the city.

Montpellier is the capital of the Languedoc region and is packed with plenty of monuments and attractions to keep the whole family entertained.

The city is within easy driving distance of villa resorts at Caberolles, Caux, Montblanc, Magales and Pahiles.

Those taking a south of France holiday in Languedoc will also be able to enjoy some of the world's most famous wines.
