Rent a south of France villa and enjoy a trip to Toulouse

Toulouse promises fine dining, bagfuls of culture and exquisite architecture to rival that of Paris, it has been claimed.

According to the Irish Times, the city, which is easily accessible to those on a Languedoc villa holiday, is convinced of its "superiority" over the French capital.

The newspaper hinted that it may just be right in that assertion, adding that Toulouse is imbued with a "young, relaxed atmosphere".

This could be because of its large student population, but also because of the many fine attractions that litter the streets of the ornate city.

Among the most popular is Space City, which attracts over 5,000 visitors every year to its life-sized replicas of various rockets, shuttles and the Mir space station.

"The heart of Toulouse is Place du Capitole, the pedestrianised main square, dominated by City Hall, the seat of government here since the 1100s, with a supporting cast of restaurants and cafes where the local movers and shakers like to see and be seen on the terraces," the newspaper stated.

Toulouse Airport is one of the main hubs for travel into the region, with Languedoc villa holidays available in the nearby destinations of Canet, Cruzy and Beziers.
