Rent a south of France villa and enjoy Dordogne's boutiques

For those booking a south of France villa holiday in the coming months, the Dordogne region promises a particularly attractive proposition.

According to the Telegraph, the region boasts "deep forests with quiet streams and hidden ponds", as well as forgotten medieval towns, exquisite boutiques and awe-inspiring chateaux dating back as far as the 12th century.

Among the highlights of Dordogne are the pilgrimage site of Rocamadour and the unspoilt 14th-century town of Sarlat, as well as the top-quality cuisine that is available throughout, the newspaper said.

"This is the gastronomic heart of France, producing some of its richest and most luxurious traditional foods, notably truffles, foie gras and goose fat," it added.

"If that all seems too rich, try some of the equally strong and assertive regional wines instead."

Those enjoying a Dordogne holiday in the south of France will also find plenty of natural beauty and exquisite scenery during their stay in the area.

If that isn't enough, there are countless prehistoric sites and stone villages to explore in the region, which offers an insight into the traditional French way of life.
