Rent a South of France villa and enjoy a break in a resurgent holiday hotspot

The South of France is an ideal holiday destination for families and breaks in the region have enjoyed something if a resurgence.

This is the view of Carolyn Boyd, editor of France Magazine, who said the country offers gorgeous beaches and great weather, yet is not too far from the UK.

She pointed out that in 2009, many families did not want to venture too far from home, as they were concerned about the cost.

However, the disappointing summer weather in Britain prompted many to consider France as an alternative to a staycation.

Ms Boyd said that this year, provided the exchange rate stays relatively constant, France will provide great value once again.

She insisted that a South of France holiday can cost the same if not less than a break in the UK, particularly for those renting villas.

"You will eat better for the same price and, unlike in Britain, with the likelihood of bad weather, you can spend your days doing free activities on the beach, walking, rather than paying to go into indoor attractions to keep out of the rain," she added.

Those staying in Provence villas can enjoy a range of outdoor pursuits, including cycling among the vineyards and exploring on foot.
