Rent a South of France holiday and enjoy sweet wine

Those taking a South of France villa holiday will be able to enjoy a wide range of sweet wines and Champagnes, just as they were intended to be tasted.

The Washington Post carries an article by wine connoisseur Dave McIntyre, in which he highlights some of his favourite sweet sparkling wines from France.

Among the expert's suggestions are the "unctuous" chenin blanc wines produced in the Loire Valley, which is one of the most famous wine-producing areas of France.

He also highlights the sparkling wines of the south-western region of Gaillac, which "will thrill apple cider lovers" with their crisp, fresh taste.

"Wine lovers crave acidity, and 'dry' is all too often considered a prerequisite of good quality," he wrote.

"Sweet wines have their place, of course; cheese and dessert come to mind. But they are easy to overlook."

Bordeaux villa holidays are particularly popular among those people hoping to explore the south-west of the country.

Even within France, the city and its surrounding area are famed for their fine wines.
