Rent a Provence villa in France and explore Van Gogh's inspiration
Those staying in holiday villas in Provence will be able to gaze at the same breathtaking scenery that inspired Vincent Van Gogh to paint some of his most famous works.
According to the Daily Mail, Arles, where the famous artist stayed during his time in the exquisite region, provides many scenes that ended up immortalised by his brush.
With a new exhibition of Van Gogh works including some painted during his 15-month trip to Provence opening at the Royal Academy, now could be the perfect time to retrace his steps.
Van Gogh travelled extensively throughout the south of France during his tragically short career, even living with fellow impressionist Gaugin for a period.
"But Arles remains much as it was when poor Van Gogh arrived there in 1888," the newspaper explains.
"The red-tiled roofs soak up the sun even in winter, the constant sunshine (3,000 hours on average a year) is cheering, and beyond it is the countryside Van Gogh immortalised in his yellow fields and starry nights."
People enjoying Provence villas can also visit the foothills of Mont Ventoux, an area famed for its natural beauty, while enjoying the historic towns and local wines.
