New apps could improve south of France villa holidays

People looking forward to a south of France villa holiday this year will be able to ensure they get the most out of their trip by using some new smartphone applications that have been launched by the country's tourism agency.

The French Government Tourist Office announced that it had made 38 "essential apps" available on its website to make breaks in the country as easy and enjoyable as possible.

Information provided through the service is grouped into eight categories, including food and wine, destinations, guides, maps and weather.

People planning south of France villa holidays will be able to download an application covering the Languedoc-Roussillon region.

This part of the country is home to numerous vineyards offering tours for wine enthusiasts, as well as cities such as Perpignan and Montpellier, which boast a number of historical and cultural attractions.

Travellers planning to do some exploring during their time in France can make use of a Google Earth app that is available for smartphones, as well as guides from publishers such as Lonely Planet.
