More people travelling to south of France holidays by Eurostar
A rise in the annual revenue of cross-Channel train operator Eurostar has been partially attributed to an increase in the number of people taking holidays in the south of France.
The firm has said it enjoyed a 12 per cent hike in takings during 2010 compared with 2009, meaning revenue of £760 million for the 12-month period.
Passengers numbers also headed in the right direction over the year, up to 9.5 million from 9.2 million the year before.
It believes the new statistics are the result of people looking further than its major terminals in Paris and Brussels when it comes to booking a break on the continent.
Indeed, it cites holidays in the south of France – as well as Holland and Germany – as key factors behind the upward trends in annual results.
Among the destinations in the region Eurostar operates a service to are Aix en Provence, Montpellier, Perpignan and Biarritz.
