Lyon may be worth a visit on south of France holiday
People on holiday in the south of France in 2011 could be well advised to head to the city of Lyon, which has been praised by one travel writer.
Jolyon Attwooll, penning a piece for the Daily Telegraph, notes the days of the resort being one that people would be happy to pass through on their way to the Mediterranean coast are gone.
Today, Lyon is a vibrant city with plenty of activity, culture and excitement to offer visitors.
Culture vultures are sure to feel at home there, with the author of the article noting among its greatest attractions are an opera house and numerous theatres.
And the Old Town area is a spot those in Lyon must experience, with its winding streets, funicular railway and the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourviere definite winners with tourists.
People planning a south of France holiday were this week given a new option when it comes to travelling there, as bmibaby announced the launch of a route between Manchester and Montpellier.
