How to stay safe while taking holidays to south of France ski resorts

Brits should make sure that they are prepared to visit ski resorts, such as those based near to villas in the south of France.

This is the advice given by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), which has teamed up with ABTA to launch the Get Fit for Ski initiative.

One of the main recommendations which the FCO was keen to point out was the need for skiers to get adequate travel insurance cover so that they do not encounter hefty costs while on the slopes.

This point was further highlighted by the fact that just 41 per cent carry out research to make sure that a policy covers them for skiing and water sport activities.

Other advice given by the FCO to holiday makers includes the fact that they should be sensible at all times on the slopes, as well as protecting the eyes from the glare of sunlight which occurs at a ski resort.

The latter point was further highlighted by Dave Byrd, director of risk and regulatory affairs for National Ski Areas Association, who recently said that he believes that goggles are "essential ski equipment".
