Grasse recommended for a south of France holiday

Holiday makers wanting to head to the south of France might want to look into renting villas in Grasse.

Jeff and Carolyn Bernacci of the Palm Beach Daily News recommend the Cote d'Azur town for its old-fashioned architecture, cafes and its main claim to fame - perfume.

Grasse is often called the world's perfume capital thanks to the fact that it lies in the middle of countryside awash with jasmine, lavender and other scented flowers.

There are various perfumeries that holiday makers can visit, as well as the Musee International de la Parfumerie for an insight into how perfumes are made.

"It has a wonderful greenhouse where you can experience some of the main ingredients firsthand," the Bernaccis comment.

Other sights for those staying in a Grasse villa include the town's historic medieval centre, which is home to the 12th century Notre Dame du Puy cathedral.

Elsewhere, the town's scented gardens - including the Plant Garden, Princess Pauline's garden and the Flower Fields in the nearby village of Plascassier - can offer further diversions on a relaxing day out in Grasse.
