Goggles 'are essential' when taking ski holidays

The need to have adequate eye protection in place when visiting a ski resort, perhaps after snapping up villas in the south of France, has been highlighted.

Dave Byrd, director of risk and regulatory affairs for National Ski Areas Association, has strongly advised wearing goggles while skiing or riding the slopes, believing them to be "essential ski equipment".

He explained: "It is critical to be able to see clearly in a high-altitude alpine environment, especially given how quickly weather can change from the glare of a bright, bluebird day or the grey, flat light when weather becomes overcast."

Snow and wind can also cause significant risks for a holiday maker's peepers, the expert also pointed out.

Therefore, Mr Byrd acknowledged that goggles can help protect eyes against such conditions, as well as minimise the sharp glare of the sun onto a person's face.

Brits seeking out south of France villas near to a ski resort have also been advised by MoneySupermarket.com to make sure they have significant travel insurance before they set off.
