Go potty for a South of France holiday

Those enjoying South of France holidays on the Cote d'Azur may wish to take a day trip to the country's pottery region.

Vallauris has been a centre for pottery making for hundreds of years and there are still numerous talented craftsmen working in the town.

Prior to the mid-19th century, the pottery produced in Vallauris was mainly used for cooking, but Picasso changed all that when he began to craft some more creative pieces.

From then on, the town developed a reputation for artistic pottery - a tradition that continues today.

Holiday makers will be able to visit traditional pottery studios in Vallauris where they can watch the experts at work.

They may even want to attend a class themselves and learn how to handle a potter's wheel or decorate their own vase.

Of course Vallauris pottery could make a great gift or holiday souvenir, with everything from antique tiles to cooking pots and intricately crafted jars for sale.

Vallauris is situated to the east of Cannes, so those renting South of France villas in this stylish resort will be able to spend a day discovering the region's pottery heritage.

Cannes itself is crammed with sights and attractions, including the famous La Croisette seafront area and the Palais des Festivals where stars gather every year for the Film Festival.
