Festival may show benefits of stay at villa in south of France

A recent festival in Lyon may have left those who viewed coverage of it desperate to secure a villa in the south of France for an upcoming stay.

The country's second city hosted the annual Fete Des Lumieres last week, which was enjoyed by Daily Telegraph writer Jolyon Attwooll.

With flames and lights dominating the scene, revellers stood shoulder to shoulder in a bid to be part of the spectacular setting.

Lyon's Eglise St Nizier – its famous church with a combination of Gothic and Renaissance styles – was the centrepiece of the showpiece event.

"After all, luminous beams of myriad colours had already crisscrossed the church, highlighted its vaulted arches; light had seemed to pour from its bricks, and an extraordinary grid of shapes had flickered across the limestone," explains the author.

Those who liked what they saw could find the best way to experience Lyon is by booking a villa in the south of France and travelling to the city for a day trip.

Among the recent famous faces to have travelled to the area is X Factor judge Dannii Minogue, who was pictured by the Daily Mail recently on a family holiday.
