European Christmas markets 'more popular than ever'

Holiday makers have been told why they should consider taking trips to some of the Christmas markets of Europe, such as those accessible in close reach of south of France villas.

Eric Hutchins, general manager of Holidays By Rail, acknowledged that such attractions "have always been very popular" but are more in demand today.

He explained that people of all ages are hoping to take in the sights and sounds of festive markets now, whether they are of the "boomer generation" or young adults.

"The spectacle of decorated towns, snow covered streets, twinkling lights, and traditional delicious food brings out an unequalled festive spirit of camaraderie and bonhomie. Especially when travelling with one's family," Mr Hutchins pointed out.

Marseille could be the ideal place to visit while trying to get into the festive mood while in villas in the south of France.

The city is set to be decorated in a variety of Christmas illuminations in the weeks ahead, while the Marseille Nativity Fair will be hosted at Allees de Meilhan.
