Enjoy some opera on a south of France villa holiday

People planning to book Provence villas for a south of France holiday this summer might be interested in paying a visit to the town of Orange to enjoy some opera.

The destination will host its annual Choregies d'Orange opera festival from July 15th to August 7th.

Founded in 1860, the event features live performances at the Theatre Antique, a spectacular Roman amphitheatre that has been designated as a Unesco World Heritage site.

Holiday makers staying in south of France villas will be able to see the festival get underway with a performance of Giacomo Puccini's Tosca on July 15th, which will feature Catherine Naglestad in the title role and Falk Struckmann as Baron Scarpia.

The show will be staged again on July 18th, before Charles Gounod's Mireille is brought to the Theatre Antique on August 4th and 7th.

Choregies d'Orange 2010 will also feature vocal performances by Natalie Dessay and Juan Diego Florez on July 17th and a symphonic concert by the Bordeaux-Aquitaine Orchestra on August 6th.

Holiday makers staying in Provence villas will find the town of Orange about 30km north of Avignon.
