Enjoy a traditional French game on Provence villa holidays

Holiday makers staying in Provence villas this spring might be interested in paying a visit to Antibes to watch a tournament showcasing a traditional French game.

The fifth annual Antibes Petanque Tournament will take place at Juan-les-Pins Pinede from May 28th to 30th.

Petanque is a type of boules in which players attempt to throw hollow metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden target known as a 'cochonnet', which literally means 'piglet'.

The current form of the game originated in Provence in 1907 and is a popular summer pastime in France.

People planning south of France villa holidays this spring can pay a visit to Antibes to see a number of French and international players going head to head for the title of Petanque Tournament champion.

Antibes is located in the Alpes-Maritimes area of Provence in south-eastern France, between the famous cities of Cannes and Nice on the glamorous Cote d'Azur.

Travellers staying in Provence villas can visit the destination to attend a number of events this year, including an exhibition of work by the artist Jaume Plensa at the Picasso Museum from May 16th to October 17th.
