Eat well in Nice on a South of France holiday

Those planning South of France villa holidays on the Cote d'Azur may wish to head to Nice for some delicious food.

In an article for the Canwest News Service, journalist Tom Casey said the city is home to numerous cafes and small shops selling a variety of fresh produce.

"Every street seems to have its own bakery, pasta and homemade cookie shop," he remarked, insisting that a wonderful blend of smells often permeates Nice.

Mr Casey said that on his South of France holiday, he only ate out twice, since the food at the local markets was so delicious.

Renting a Cote d'Azur villa also meant he was able to prepare his own meals using the produce he had purchased.

He said that from Tuesday through to Sunday, a morning farmers market takes place in Cours Saleya - the main square in Nice.

An upscale flea market comes to the same area on Mondays where holiday makers can purchase some unique souvenirs.

Those hoping to spend some time in Nice during their South of France holiday could rent a villa in La Gaude, which is just 25 minutes away.

Situated on a hilly ridge halfway between Nice and Vence, the village is surrounded by beautiful countryside, which may appeal to those who enjoy walking and cycling.
