Book a south of France holiday and discover the Vintage Caper

People staying in the south of France can find gastronomic inspiration in the pages of the Vintage Caper, the latest novel from Peter Mayle.

The book may be fiction, but it is also a great advert for Provence, highlighting the region's world-renowned wines and delicious cuisine at every turn.

According to the LA Times review of the work, it provides "Francophiles, foodies and wine lovers with a fun way to indulge their passions while helping solve the case".

The Vintage Caper is described as a "light-hearted romp" through Bordeaux and Marseilles, in which choosing the right wine to accompany dinner is as crucial to the plot as the thief who is on the run.

The newspaper adds that the delectable tale is at its most enjoyable when it "frolics" in the south of France, a sentiment with which people staying in Provence villas may agree.

Mr Mayle has been writing since 1975 and is famous for his series of non-fictional books documenting life in Provence.

The British author's 1989 international bestseller A Year in Provence was based on his own experiences as an expatriate in the region, while the 1993 novel A Good Year was adapted into a film of the same name starring Russell Crowe.
