Book a South of France villa for a taste of the region's best tipples
People on a South of France villa holiday may wish to venture to the home of Noilly Prat - a classic French aperitif and a must for any cocktail enthusiast.
The tipple hails from Sete in the Languedoc region, with the Times describing it as "an essential ingredient in the cocktail, whether shaken or stirred".
According to the Noilly Prat website, the classic dry aperitif has been handcrafted in the South of France for 200 years. Herbalist Joseph Noilly first created the recipe in 1813.
In 1896 it featured in the first published recipe for the classic dry martini cocktail, reports the website.
The Sunday Telegraph describes it as the "Rolls-Royce of vermouths, prized by cocktail barmen".
People can visit the Noilly Prat cellars and associated shop and boutique.
The Languedoc region in the South of France is also the world's largest wine producing area, making it the perfect spot to take a wine tour and sample a drop or two along the way.
