Book a Languedoc holiday for tasty wine that won't break the bank

Holiday makers in the south of France just starting out on a love affair with wine will find plenty of affordable treats in Languedoc without needing to break the bank.

Wine is often perceived as an expensive hobby but according to Shanghai Daily, Languedoc offers good-value wines that are often better quality than the more famous varieties from Bordeaux or Burgundy.

The newspaper explained that these regions find it difficult to produce cheaper wines because the variable climate in the north makes it much harder to supply quality ripe grapes without being much more selective at harvest.

However, it continued: "Francophiles with smaller budgets need not lose hope.

"There is a region in France that makes affordable wines that will satisfy even the most demanding palates."

Languedoc has developed a reputation in recent years for producing some of the finest low-cost wines in the world, due to its Mediterranean climate and the inventiveness of wine makers in growing and cultivating different varietals.

The region in the south of France is also celebrated for its local cuisine, beautiful countryside and large, sandy beaches.
