Book a Languedoc holiday and explore 'fairytale' Carcassonne
Those who love nothing more than exploring historical towns and cities will enjoy a visit to Carcassonne on their South of France holiday in the Languedoc region.
This medieval walled city is described as a "fairytale" destination in a Daily Mail article by travel journalist Rosa Monckton.
She said she stayed in Carcassonne during a break in the South of France with her family, including her two children.
Complete with battlements, towers and cobbled streets, the fortress looks as though it belongs in a storybook, she claimed.
"The citadel is the ideal size for children to explore," the writer stated. "There are winding steps, towers to dance in and endless scope for living out fairytale fantasies."
During her holiday, Ms Monckton also spent time in Narbonne, with its famous indoor market and its medieval cloisters. She also took a boat trip on the Canal du Midi, which links the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea.
Those renting Languedoc villas in Cruzy will be able to drive to Carcassonne easily. Narbonne will also be within easy reach.
Another place holiday makers may wish to visit is the town of Beziers, which is 30 minutes away by car.
Alternatively, they could cross the border into Spain for a day.
