Book a Biarritz holiday and enjoy the rugby

Rugby fans booking a South of France villa holiday may wish to check out Biarritz Olympique Pays Basque in action.

The French rugby club, which is based in the Aquitaine region, currently sits eighth in the French Top 14 league, and also competes annually in the Heineken Cup.

Last year, the team finished fifth, and will likely be hoping to improve on its current standing before the end of the 2008-09 season in March.

Biarritz Olympique are just one point behind Stade Francais and three behind Racing Metro 92 at present. They beat Stade Francais 30-22 when they played earlier this year, but have yet to take on the latter this season.

With upcoming games against Castres Olympique, Metro Racing, SC Albi and CS Bourgoin Jallieu before the end of the year, the rugby club will be hoping to enter 2010 in a strong position.

The team from Biarritz are currently enjoying something of a purple patch in their long and illustrious history, having won back-to-back French league titles in 2005 and 2006.

In 2006, they also reached the final of the Heineken Cup, where they were only narrowly defeated 23-19 by Munster.
