Action-packed start to 2012 on offer in south of France villas

A stay in south of France villas in close proximity of the city of Nice could prove an entertaining choice for holiday makers in the new year.

The picturesque French city is set to be host to a couple of exciting events in the first few months of 2012.

Kicking off the action will be the Prom'Classic, which sees thousands of people showcasing their energy levels by competing in a ten-kilometre run.

Hosted along Nice's Promenade des Anglais every year, tourists have the chance to see a host of well-known athletes performing alongside amateur runners.

The entertainment keeps on coming throughout February and March, when the south of France hotspot gets transformed with the Nice Carnival.

An array of festivities, carnival processions, concerts, firework displays and parades will be hosted along the French Riviera over the course of two weeks.

Holiday makers should be sure to catch the conclusion of the Nice Carnival, which traditionally coincides with Mardi Gras and sees a host of papier mache giants travelling through the city towards the beach for a ceremonial bonfire.
