Spend a day at the races on a Menorca holiday
It may not be Royal Ascot, but those enjoying Menorca villa holidays can spend a day at the races at the Hipodromo de Ciutadella.
For over 200 years the venue has played host to trotting races which see jockeys ride in special carts as their horses travel around the track.
But unlike conventional horse racing, the animals do not gallop to the finish line in these competitions.
Instead, the jockeys must prevent their horses from running, keeping them at trotting speed throughout the race.
Holiday makers staying in a Menorca villa in Cala Blanes will be able to walk to the Hipodromo de Ciutadella, which lies just to the north of the resort.
The action is sure to be exciting, perhaps even more so if tourists choose the winning horse.
Cala Blanes is a family-friendly resort that has a lot to offer for children and adults, with a water park, several small coves for sunbathing and a wide variety of shops, bars and restaurants.
