Menorca villa holidays offer Mediterranean beaches 'without crowds'
Holiday makers staying in a Menorca villa will be able to enjoy some of the Mediterranean's finest beaches without having to navigate through throngs of tourists.
That is according to one travel writer, who suggested that the Balearic island offers a "small, laid-back area" in which to spend a quiet holiday.
Writing in the Vancouver Sun, Keith Akenhead said the Spanish territory has benefitted from avoiding the heavy development and exposure that were endured by neighbours such as Ibiza.
"It has none of the party atmosphere or mega-tourist development of other Mediterranean islands," he said. "People come here to relax."
Mr Akenhead also made mention of the island's unique circular shape, marking out the town of Cituadell, on the west coast, as one of Menorca's highlights.
It features a "labyrinth of old streets, craft markets and shops featuring locally produced goods", he said, noting that holiday makers may wish to sample the delicious cheese and sausages produced in the area.
