Holiday villas in Spain 'popular because Brits feel comfortable'
The familiarity of the country is one reason why Britons keep booking holiday villas in Spain, Carmen Hernandez Gomez of the nation's tourist office has suggested.
Ms Gomez, a market analyst at the body, explained Brits "have been travelling to Spain for many decades" and have become familiar with the destination as a result.
"They know it really well," she remarked, adding 90 per cent of British tourists that head there every year have already visited previously.
One of the biggest draws is that there are home comforts that make it seem like visitors are not in a foreign country, Ms Gomez said, as English is widely spoken in most of the popular resorts - such as Menorca - and the hospitals and airports are all modern.
She was commenting after a poll conducted by sunshine.co.uk earlier this month, which found Spain to be the country in which British tourists feel the safest.
