Book a Menorca holiday and enjoy the island's tight-knit community
Holiday makers renting a Menorca villa will find the island's local inhabitants to be "delightful and charming" during their trip.
That is according to British expatriate Colin Guanaria, who wrote in the Financial Times of his fondness for the Balearic island and its harbour in particular, which offers a striking juxtaposition between modern and old.
"My favourite part of the island is the harbour of Mahón – it’s Europe’s largest natural harbour," he wrote.
"It's got such a history to it, going back to Carthaginian times."
Looking at the island's itinerary, Mr Guanaria suggested there are always events taking place in the evenings, be they concerts, art exhibitions or operas.
He added that Spain's first opera house was built in Menorca, evidence of the great "cultural life" that is open to holiday makers and residents spending time on the island.
Those staying in a Menorca villa will find the island has strong links with Britain, but its history goes much further back than that, with Neolithic towns, ancient monuments and even prehistoric remains all documented there.
History buffs may also be interested in checking out the stone towers dating back to the Bronze age.
