Walking in the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains, Mallorca
Walking holidays in Mallorca are incomplete without a good trek in the Sierra de Tramunana mountains in the island's interior.
Highly recommended by the hiking community, the mountains provide excellent and variable terrain, depending the on ability and fitness of the walker.
The 90-kilometre-long range runs from Andratx to Pollensa, south west to north east.
Variations in terrain make the mountains particularly attractive to those on walking holidays, with shady low lying oak woods giving way to hardy brushwood as the altitude increases.
Perhaps the most spectacular views of all are found along the coastal range, with vertiginous cliffs and torrents. The most celebrated, the Torrent de Pareis, is found to the north east, and features an underground cave which hikers can explore.
The highest peaks of the Sierra de Tramuntana are the Puig Major at 1,352 metres and the Tossals Verds at 1,114 metres.
