Visit the home of Robert Graves on a Mallorca holiday

Those with an interest in literature can visit the home of the celebrated poet Robert Graves on a Mallorca villa holiday.

The writer lived on the island for several years of his life, settling there for good after the Second World War until his death in 1985.

His home in Deia is now open to the public and holiday makers can take a tour of it on a day trip to the small fishing village on Mallorca's north coast.

In an article for the Sunday Times Travel Magazine, Deia in Mallorca is named as one of the best places to enjoy a late summer break.

According to the publication, Graves once said he chose the island as his home because it had, among other things, sun, sea, mountains and shady trees.

"It still feels that way and the time to go is autumn, when it's crowd-free, evenings are balmy and the water is at its warmest," states the article.

As well as a tour of Robert Graves' house, a wander around the Carthusian monastery in nearby Valldemossa is also recommended.

Those renting Mallorca villas in Sa Pobla will be able to get to Deia and Valldemossa by car.

The inland town is set in a marshy area known as the land of a thousand windmills and lies at the heart of a farming community.
