Travellers setting off on Mallorca holidays from Doncaster

Mallorca holidays were a highly popular option among travellers flying from Doncaster Sheffield airport in June, it has been revealed.

Managers of the base announced that Palma, Mallorca's capital city, was one of the top destinations in its network last month.

Alicante also proved popular from Doncaster Sheffield in June as passengers set off on Costa Blanca holidays, along with Dalaman in Turkey and Faro in the Algarve.

Overall, some 109,130 people passed through the airport last month, marking a 16 per cent increase from the same period in 2009.

Mike Morton, director of the base, said that travellers in the region are noticing the benefits of being able to embark on Mallorca holidays and other breaks from their local airport.

"We are really beginning to see the impact our new routes are having on the number of passengers using Doncaster Sheffield airport for their travel needs," he commented.

"Holiday makers from across Yorkshire and the Humber, north Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire are realising how much easier it is to fly from their local airport and are looking to use us when planning their trips."
