Stay in a Mallorca villa for the Global Ocean Race

Britons looking to book a Mallorca villa holiday next year or in 2012 might want to reserve their accommodation to coincide with the Global Ocean Race (GOR).

The organisers of the event have announced that the Spanish island will host the start and finish of the contest, which kicks off with the Mallorca to Cape Town leg on September 25th 2011.

It will close with the Charleston to Mallorca stretch, which begins on May 20th 2012 and is expected to see participants land in Mallorca on June 10th.

The round-the-world race is set to receive 20 entries from more than 11 countries and be quite a spectacle for holiday makers on a Mallorca villa holiday in September 2011 or June 2012.

Josh Hall of GOR said: "We are thrilled to announce Mallorca as the new home for the GOR," adding: "Mallorca works at every level for our competitors, for the race and boat sponsors and for friends, families and race fans - it is a truly spectacular venue!"

The race will also call at Wellington and Punta del Este. Mallorca is well-known for hosting a range of top yacht racing events, such as the Copa del Rey, the Palma Velas and the Superyacht Cup.

Yesterday (August 1st) saw the King's Cup Regatta kick off in Mallorca. It will run until August 7th.
