Santueri Castle: Mallorca
A well preserved castle, it has been around for much of the island's history and is placed on a high plateau which rises nearly 500 metres.
Its location gives great views of the surrounding area and holidaymakers can look out from the walls, built in the 1300s, to the island of Cabrera.
Used as a fortress by the Romans and the Arabs, the castle has seen a lot of conflict but the castle's design has allowed it to withstand the test of time.
Square towers flank the castle and some of the walls were built with the opus spicatum technique, according to illesbalears.es, a sign of its medieval roots.
According to legend the Christians needed a trick to force the Moors out of the castle so they planned a big dance on one side of the fortress to attract the Moors and by the time the Moors realised they were already cornered.
