Saint Sebastian feast day

Hundreds of people take part in the event that involves a cycle ride through the city finishing in a spectacular display of fireworks known as the Aiguafoc.

An extended programme of events runs through the city at the end of the month to celebrate the saint.

Saint Sebastian is said to have died on January 20th and was killed by the Roman emperor Diocletian who persecuted many Christians.

He was proclaimed as the patron saint of Palma following the miraculous end to the plague of 1523 to1524 that ended on January 20th.

Holidaymakers visiting Mallorca can enjoy more religious culture by going to the Palma de Mallorca cathedral known as La Seu which is 121 metres long and 55 metres wide and designed in the French Gothic style.
