Rent a Mallorca villa and enjoy grown-up sophistication

Mallorca may once have had a reputation as a party island, but it has now grown up, offering visitors "a haven of history, luxury and sophistication".

This is the view of travel writer Ellen Branagh, who believes Mallorca has undergone a dramatic change of image in recent years.

In an article for the Press and Journal she said its newfound sophistication is evident in the "elegant" streets and squares of its capital Palma.

"Its old walls remain in place, topped by the occasional windmill, and the splendid historic quarter, from its imposing Gothic cathedral to Arab baths, art museums and Gaudi-inspired buildings, will keep any culture vulture interested," Ms Branagh remarked.

But for all its historical gems, Palma has plenty of modern glamour too, with the Passeig del Born offering some top shopping thanks to its designer boutiques and the port area welcoming numerous yachts and cruise ships.

Those renting Mallorca villas in Sa Rapita will be just a 40-minute drive from Palma. They will also be able to enjoy a small selection of shops, bars and restaurants within their own resort.

For beach lovers, the Es Trenc beach, which is three kilometres long, is a short walk away.
