Pollensa music festival, Mallorca
Mallorca will again welcome a host of musicians from both home and abroad for its long-established classical music festival this summer.
The International Festival, held in the picturesque small town of Pollensa, to the north east of the island, begins on July 7th and runs through to August 25th.
It is held in the atmospheric cloisters of the historic convent of Santo Domingo. Appropriate dress is required for spectators, and all concerts commence at 10pm.
Acts scheduled to appear this year include the Slovak chamber orchestra, pianist Leslie Howard and the Casals Quartet.
The festival was founded in 1962 by the violinist Philip Newman, who had retired to the island. He performed there each year until his death in 1966.
Pollensa, a traditional haunt of painters and artists, is one of the island's major cultural hubs - the town of just over 15,000 residents supports no fewer than five art galleries and three museums.
The town has been popular with travellers since well before the mass tourism boom.
