Mallorca villa holidays 'great for cyclists'
Writing for Scotland on Sunday, Ruth Walker said Mallorca provides a variety of different terrains in one easily navigated area.
"The island is criss-crossed by designated cycle routes suitable for all abilities," she explained. "So if, for instance, the Tour de France-style peaks don't spin your wheel, there are plenty of flat, more leisurely paths too."
Ms Walker recommended cycling along the coastal route from the "gorgeous" port of Portixol east of Palma, stopping off to enjoy a drink at one of the beach bars.
And she said the views on offer along some of Mallorca's cycle paths, particularly those in the hills, are second to none.
"Endless rows of gnarled olive trees, fragrant lemon boughs and ancient villages dot the landscape as far as the eye can see and the tuneless clang of goat bells echoes in my ears," she wrote.
Holiday makers eager to get on their bikes on a Mallorca villa holiday could stay in the resort of Cala d'or, where they can explore some deserted coves along the coast or cycle down to the marina to watch the yachts come in.
