Mallorca named preferred holiday destination of Scots

Britons currently considering their travel options ahead of the winter season may wish to choose something warm and exotic, such as a holiday in Mallorca.

Independent tourist group Barrhead Travel has recently named the Spanish island as the number one destination for Scottish voyagers during the summer.

It carried out a survey of jet-setters in the country, which found a holiday in Mallorca was more popular than breaks in the Canary Islands and the US.

The organisation's chief executive Sharon Munro notes: "Established resorts in Mallorca, Spain and the Canary Islands are immensely popular with our customers and this trend looks to continue for some time to come."

With some experts claiming new spots may emerge as the current favourites among travellers, Barrhead Travel's findings are a reminder that existing destinations such as Mallorca are here to stay.

A common reason to visit Mallorca is for cycling, with the island renowned for offering a picturesque and diverse landscape to explore by bike.
