Mallorca holidays: Hollywood star lobbying for island mountain range
Adventurous travellers planning a Mallorca holiday this year will have the opportunity to visit a spectacular location that is the subject of a campaign being supported by Hollywood actor Michael Douglas.
The star is lobbying for the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range to be listed as a Unesco World Heritage site, TravelMole reported.
If the location is officially recognised by Unesco it could benefit from more protection to preserve its natural and ecological attributes.
Douglas, who owns a Mallorca holiday home in the village of Valldemossa, has added his name to a petition to get the Tramuntana mountains on the World Heritage list.
Some 11,500 island residents have also shown their support for the campaign, along with 8,600 Facebook users, according to TravelMole.
Travellers planning some outdoor pursuits and exploration during a Mallorca villa break should visit the north-west coast of the island to see the Serra de Tramuntana chain.
People taking a holiday in Pollensa will be among the best placed to see the mountains, as well as those visiting destinations such as Soller and Calvia.
