Mallorca airport sees increase in activity

More people seem to have been taking up trips to visit Mallorca villas over the summer, if new figures are anything to go by.

According to AENA, the Spanish airport holding company, a total of 3,464,972 passengers passed through the island's Son Sant Joan airport throughout August.

This statistic is up by 8.1 per cent compared to the number of people who used the travel hub during the same month of 2010.

Furthermore, a 7.7 per cent rise was seen in the number of flights using the Son Sant Joan airport in August 2011 compared to last year.

Passengers using scheduled flights also witnessed an increase year on year, with a 12.1 per cent climb seen.

The figures mean that 16,148,513 people have now used the Son Sant Joan travel hub during 2011 until the end of August, up from 8.3 per cent when compared to the same period of time in 2010.

Brits who visit villas in Mallorca during the next few months may be able to sample the delicate white fish of raor while dining on the island, which can be caught by the fishermen in the destination until the end of March.
